E.    Getting around Chicago

·         Chicago Travel Tips and Logistics from our resident expert of Chicago travel, Vice President of Alpha Delta Phi International Roger Deschner, CHI ’77.

·         People (especially undergraduate delegates!) should be careful if flying directly into Champaign due to possibly much higher airfares than flying into Chicago - compare carefully. Amtrak and Greyhound are having a fare war on this route with fares as low as $14 on selected departures. Amtrak also has direct service to Champaign from New Orleans, Memphis, and Indianapolis.

·         It's easy to get from O'Hare or Midway to the train and bus stations:

o   OHARE to either AMTRAK or GREYHOUND: Chicago Transit Authority Blue Line train to the Clinton station. Walk two blocks north on ClintonStreet to Amtrak Union Station, or one block west on Congress to theGreyhound Bus station. Fare: $2.25 each way, cash or credit cardaccepted. The CTA Blue Line train can be faster than a taxicab due totraffic.

o   MIDWAY to AMTRAK UNION STATION: Chicago Transit Authority Orange Line train to Quincy and walk three blocks west on Adams to Amtrak Union Station. Fare $2.25 each way, cash or credit card accepted.

o   MIDWAY to GREYHOUND BUS STATION: Buy a fare card at the machine with $2.50 on it so you can make the transfer without paying another fare. Ride the Chicago Transit Authority Orange Line train to the LaSalle/Van Buren station. Walk one block south to LaSalle/Congress and enter the Blue Line subway. Ride a "Forest Park" train for one stop to Clinton. Walk one block west on Congress to the Greyhound Bus Station.

o   TIP: Buy a fare card from the machine at the airport with your return fare also, to save time and hassle. Just put $4.50 or $5.00 in the machine and keep the card for the return trip.

V. Lodging
